Description

The Interstellar Reserve Command was developed as a highly mobile space army that can operate on various planet environments and easily move between planets and systems to lend a helping hand. Led by a High Commander, they may also fulfil other roles such as protecting a colonial expedition and invading enemy planets. The Marines function as the IRC's main bulk of infantry and though similar to the IRS General Infantry soldier, they are much more highly trained and have more advanced equipment at their disposal. The Marines draws its soldiers from pools of the General Infantry and its own cadet program. After a selection process, the selected recruits will undergo training on weapons, tactics, armor and manoeuvres. After that they will become new full-fledged Marines and will start off as a Private. Due to the nature of their training, the Marines are one of the most recognized elite forces of the IRS.

Marines are usually deployed on the planet surface to assist the land-based Army. They are also used in space conditions, as security elements on friendly space vessels or tasked with boarding enemy ships.

Weapons generally wielded by a Marine are the CMR-2 Assault Rifle and the P96 Sidearm. The CMR-2 differs from standard-issue rifles as they are shorter and feeds its rounds from a larger 70-Round box magazine. This is so as it is easier to transport and use in tight spaces abroad a ship as well as reducing the need to constantly resupply especially when they are deployed on a hostile world where restocking ammunition is no an option. The CMR-2 may be bulky to carry about, but it is lightweight. It fires 5.56x45mm Caseless rounds via electromagnetic rails in the barrel powered by a powerful solar-rechargeable power cell. This makes the CMR-2 a powerful and reliable weapon for its size.

The Bryomite Composite hardplate armor used by the Marines is similar to what the General Infantry uses, though with some additional differences. Marines wear vacuum sealed bodysuits under their armor and gear and put on fully-enclosed helmets for use in space as well as in hazardous environments. The helmet have filters to break down or block poisonous gases and biological agents and incorporates advanced Heads Up Display features along with communications access and additional visual assistance features such as night vision, thermovision and many others. Motion trackers are also installed to help the Marine keep track of his surroundings. Other than the special helmet, a Marine has a pair of thrusters that help him to slow down during a mid-air drop. They can also allow the Marine to fly short distances, though they do not act as 'true' jetpacks in a sense.

For melee combat, the Marine has a survival knife and a machete. The knife is usually used for silently taking down enemies, while the machete is utilized in serious swordfighting. For extended missions, the Marine carries a rucksuck containing all their rations and the equipment to survive in harsh conditions.

More on their body armor, the Bryomite Composite hardplate armor covers their upper torso, shoulders and arms as well as the shins of their legs. The armor can deflect small arms fire and withstand a decent amount of energy-based blasts such as lasers, plasma and microwave beams. No significant progress has been made to make the armor resistant to anti-matter attacks and some more time and research may be needed to do so.

While generally gung-ho or reserved towards the common General Infantryman, the Marines still have the sense of national duty and patriotism towards Singapore and are committed to protecting it from foreign and domestic attacks.
