Description

Alright, here is a RR-49 Reaper-class battleship with a squadrons of Shorea Multi-role jet fighters and some airship carriers. They are responding to a threat that needs the great long-range firepower of the Reaper's guns. It's your imagination; aliens, rebels whatever you can think of.

I made the chassis and most of the weapon systems in powerpoint, and then traced it on paper and added the decals and a few more weapon systems.

Background: Even though the last battleship, the USS Missouri, was decommissioned on 31 March 1992, Ayman knew that battleships can still be an useful asset to a country's navy since their firepower and fear factor was still relevant in modern combat. However, he realized that the battleships need to be redesigned and remade to be smaller, faster and more mobile than their past counterparts but nevertheless still sporting large amounts of firepower. When the African Union was formed after the Attrition War against the A.T.O, Ayman was made its Autarch and immediately he made plans to transform Africa from a continent beset by poverty into a first world superpower worthy of global attention. By 2040, the AU was the world's largest economical player in almost all fields; industrial manufacturing, mining, fishing, agricultural and technology. The sudden inflow of wealth into Africa's economy made much of Ayman's plans possible. The schemes to improve quality of life, the overhaul of the military and most importantly- his armada of powerful battleships. Once the important plans for AU were completed, he immediately contacted TRD Facilities to analyse his battleship designs that he had prepared and see whether it was possible to manufacture it. TRD Facilities suggested some minor alterations but nevertheless they approved of the design. A prototype was constructed by TRD Shipworks Facilities and underwent testing in 2045. Autarch Ayman and his Central Command commanders, who were of the many spectators that observed the combat capabilities of the Reaper, expressed satisfaction and approved the order to mass produce the Reaper. Almost the whole of the African workforce and machinery were directed to the shipyards to build the battleship armada Ayman wanted. It was a difficult task but by 2050 the African Union had 30 Reaper Battleships ready for assignment. In 2052, during the Kumarian Exodus, two Reapers were deployed to Malaysia to eliminate their naval forces and after that the battleships, in conjunction with allied ships, conducted long-range bombardment on the shorelines and cities of Malaysia to clear a path for the invasion forces. Shortly after, the United Nations declared war on the AU and Singapore and the Reapers were sent to the Gulf to engage Coalition ships. So far none were sunk. Japan then revealed their new Shogun Battleships which were acclaimed to sport electromagnetic railguns and with U.N approval, deployed them with an invasion fleet en route to South East Asia to destroy Singapore and Indonesia via the Pacific Ocean. The two Reaper Battleships from Singapore, along with a few other cruisers, sailed to meet the Japanese invaders. During the chaotic battle, a Reaper was sunk by the Shogun's guns but by then the Japanese had lost. The remaining Reaper exerted its cry of revenge and fired several salvos at the japanese battered armada, destroying them completely and leaving no survivors. The Reaper and its fleet received reinforcements and were ordered to sail to China, where they would rendezvous with the Chinese navy before leading the invasion of Japan. When the invasion started, the Reaper Battleships made their first impression by shelling the Japanese counterattack and taking out their prized military installations before they went on bombarding coastal cities. After Japan was out of the game, Western Europe faced devastating blows from the Reaper and the Reapers followed the retreating WEF forces to U.S.A. The Reapers conducted their relentless long range strikes, taking out important military sites and hindering the U.S military power. Finally the United Nations was dissolved after US forces were eliminated and left defeated, and the Interstellar Republic of Singapore was formed. As time passed, the Reaper was refiited with more advanced weapons; the battleship cannons were replaced with electromagnetic-force assisted cannons (or simply the railguns) and installed with an onboard A.I. The Reaper served combat missions repelling the Monarch and Chasan invasion deployments and finally saw huge action in bombarding Nagron forces and clearing the way for IRS troops. The Reaper continues to serve as IRS's primary battleship and will fire its mighty cannons against the Red Serpent forces.

Armament: Currently, the Reaper sports 5 Electromagnetic-Force Assisted 380mm Battleship turrets, with three 380mm cannons in each turret. These cannons can propel the 380mm shells at extreme long ranges thanks to the electromagnetic plates in the barrel of the gun. The electromagnetic force also drastically increases the penetrating power of the shells than normal shells launched by conventional recoil mechanisms. This means that the shells can penetrate deeper inside enemy armor and explode from within, causing devastating damage to the affected hostile unit. While the 380mm railguns are primarily for long-range bombardments or engagements from far away, the 120mm Cannons serve at the sides of the battleship for attacking other enemy ships up at short to medium ranges. They can finish off battered battleships with ease, or eliminate smaller ships completely where the firepower of the Reaper's battleship cannons are unnecessary. For destroying smaller faster craft such as motorboats and yachts, the rapid-fire 100mm cannon is there at the sides of the ship. No one should underestimate it's capability despite its relatively low attack damage, for barrages of 100mm Sabot rounds can pepper up any watercraft, military or otherwise, into a flaming wreck full of holes. Another long-range capable weapon of the RR-49 is the Aegis Missile Launching System Platform which are designed and manufactured by TRD Facilities. Each turret can carry up to six missiles, and each missile can be programmed with battlefield information, mainly with GPS coordinates of the target, before being launched out. Once fired, the missile will find its target with the received battlefield information and rocket towards it. Normally, the computer of the missile will do the moving but in extreme cases where there is heavy AA fire the missile can be steered by the battleship crew via wireless connection to its systems. Once the missile hits the target, the warhead will penetrate the target first where after that the 5 second fuse is activated. Upon the detonation from within, the target is blown to pieces. The capability of the Aegis missile is highly prized, as the deadly accuracy and precision along with the lethal amount of explosives guarantees the utter destruction of the enemy. If authorised, nuclear, chemical or biological missiles can be loaded into the turret for firing during cases where there is no other option but to execute a scorched earth strategy to annihilate every single enemy at all costs. This makes the RR-49 particularly useful for laying down hell on the hostiles. The 60mm CRWS minigun turrets on the Reaper are its main Anti-aircraft weapons, using their large stockpile of ammunition and fast firing rates to quickly shoot down enemy aircraft and prevent them from attacking the Reaper. To engage any small watercraft at its flanks, 70mm Rapid fire cannons are placed at the sides to immediately destroy the smaller threats. For hunting submarines, the Reaper wields a bigger version of the standard-issue W34 torpedo launchers found on cruisers, destroyers and other smaller ships. The amount of high explosives packed in each torpedo warhead is more than enough to punch a hole in submarine armor and make it sink to the bottom of the seabed. The torpedos also can be used against ships.

Armor: The Tryomite-N triple layer platings provide excellent protection against small arms, heavy calibre weaponry and large projectiles as well as energy-based weaponry such as lasers, microwave beams, plasma and decent amount of anti-matter blasts. The triple layering prevents most projectile explosives to penetrate the armor and explode from within, limiting the damage inflicted on the Reaper battleship. While Tryomite-N is not as strong or sturdy as the conventional ones mounted on ground units, it provides relatively very good protection and enables the Reaper to keep reaping enemy lives whether they are on the shoreline, in structures and bunkers, or at sea as crewmen in enemy boats.

Mobility: The Reaper had a surprising high amount of mobility and agility unlike its ancient predecessors which were bulky and slow. It could reach top speeds of 100KM/H with the hydrojets, 80KM/H on the propellers and 160KM/H (though this was merely the speed limit that the thrusters are allowed to go) and has the ability to use any two at the same time, mainly the hydrojets and the propellers for normal propulsion and the thrusters only if their displacement from their current location was of utmost urgency. Even the first models that were used in the U.N War made a huge impact on the battlefield and its outcomes, not to mention that its mere presence gave opposing commanders, admirals, military experts and even politicians a great shock and frustration. The Reaper's ability to outsail other ships and perform almost impossible moves enables it to play hide-and-seek with its prey and finish them off where they least expect it at the end of the game. The Japs had their share of bitter experience engaging a naval battle with the Reapers as their gunners often would have them in his sights, only to find out that the targeted Reaper was at their ships' flanks unleashing salvos after salvos of hell on the japanese ships. The Reaper now is even faster, with a fully functional tomatak reactor to provide huge amounts of power to its advanced propulsion systems.

Sensory Equipment: Like all other military hardware, the Reaper has the most advanced electronic systems and hardware, as well as software, that the IRS can provide. The Reaper's interfaces can receive and broadcast essential battlefield information from the IIN (Intelligence Information Network). This battlefield information provided by other units in the vicinity can be consisted of GPS positions of allied and enemy units, terrain details, updated information and the global map of the area where the IRS troops are deployed in. Satellite images and video feeds can also be accessed from the IIN if necessary. This network of up-to-date battlefield intelligence enables IRS commanders to plan their strategy carefully and coordinate their troops effectively to execute a swift, merciless strike on the enemy and their total destruction, which will then result in IRS victory. The Etherium Pulse Sensors mounted on the Reaper can detect enemy units from far, even if they are cloaked. Using a combination of battlefield information and laser tracking, the sensors on the Aegis enables it to lock-on onto enemy targets and program its missile with that precise information. Once launched, the missile will hunt for its prey and moves towards it for impact and then detonation. It can also be wirelessly controlled if needed to be. The onboard A.I on the Reaper can assist gunners by plotting accurate and precise firing solutions and automatically adjusting the elevation (for cannon-based weaponry). The A.I can process terrabytes of battlefield information and manage them effectively for viewing by commanders. It can also take over the CRWS gun controls if needed to be, pinpointing enemy threats with information from the sensors and eliminating them systematically with lethal cold reliability.

There is another variant of the Reaper which replaces its Aegis turret for a MRLS missile launcher which, while having shorter range, can provide a relentless barrage of missiles over an area.
